Wolverhampton Wanderers Unlikely to Sign Sunderland Starlet Chris Rigg

According to recent reports, Wolverhampton Wanderers are unlikely to secure the services of Sunderland’s highly-rated youngster Chris Rigg. The 17-year-old midfielder has been making waves in the Championship, scoring three goals in 15 appearances for the Black Cats.

Rigg’s impressive performances have caught the attention of several top clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, and Real Madrid. Football Insider believes that these bigger clubs will likely win the race for Rigg’s signature, leaving Wolves on the outside looking in.

Sunderland’s strong negotiating position, thanks to Rigg’s contract extension until 2027, may deter some clubs from making a move. However, the Wearside outfit’s determination to hold onto their prized asset may not be enough to keep Rigg at the Stadium of Light.

Wolves’ chances of signing Rigg are further complicated by their own precarious position in the Premier League. Currently sitting 19th in the table, Wolves face a real risk of relegation, which could impact their ability to attract top talent like Rigg.

While a move to Wolves might provide Rigg with more opportunities for game time, it’s unlikely that he would choose to join a club fighting for survival in the top flight. For now, it seems that Rigg’s future lies elsewhere, with bigger clubs likely to come calling in the near future.
