While Sean Dyche has acknowledged that he will make changes for Everton’s Carabao Cup match against Southampton at home, he asserts that his busy schedule will not allow him to address some of the minute elements related to their recent collapses. The Blues gave up a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at home to Bournemouth before the international break, and they then lost by the same scoreline at Aston Villa on Saturday. This was after their stunning late surrender to lose 3-2 at home to Bournemouth. In preparation for what would likely be Goodison Park’s final game in May of next year, Dyche revealed that he will alter his pack for the third-round matchup against the Saints.
When asked if he would be able to conduct a thorough analysis of the problems that may have led to the squad handing up leads in the upcoming days, he responded, “We have three games in a week, so I can’t really address them.” You can’t really address much because of the physicality when you factor in the Villa game that we just had, the Southampton game, and the Leicester game. Because of the demand and the number of people we have, all we can really do is stroll, chat, and go over the team’s design. All we’ll do is put in our best effort.
There will be some adjustments, including the addition of some players who we know require playing time. The league is more important than the cup—I’ve said it all along—so there will be some changes. Therefore, we will need to use some bodies that we may not have played with and we do need bodies that are fit. “Some players must play because they require the minutes and the ability to challenge for us,” the team said.
