The Wigan Warriors are pleased to be contributing steps for “The Big Step Out 2024,” which is being arranged by the nonprofit Stepping Out With Carers, in support of our friends at Wigan and Leigh Young Carers. Anyone who provides care for a sick, crippled, elderly, mentally ill, or addicted person without receiving compensation from a business or local government is considered an unpaid carer. This is primarily a friend or family member. Unpaid carers frequently provide in-home care for a loved one, sometimes without a break, and frequently invisibly and alone. Over 10 million unpaid carers are thought to exist in the UK, and each week, they are believed to offer 129 million hours of care.
The Club will contribute its steps to a variety of teams and celebrities, such as:

During their game against the London Broncos on Friday, June 21, Wigan Warriors will track each player’s distance travelled using GPS technology. They will also share the total amount of steps they took during the weekend.
As a component of the UK’s largest community walking event, The Big Step Out honours unpaid carers and the individuals they look after. June 12–25 is when the festival is happening. The charity arranges walks that provide much-needed company and a break from the daily stress of caring for someone. Donations cover the cost of meals, transportation, and wheelchairs for carers and the individuals they look after as needed. “We’re delighted to support everyone at WLCC and take part in The Big Step Out,” stated Warriors Head Coach Matt Peet.
It’s wonderful to be supporting this wonderful project on behalf of the charity, which supports some incredible people, since we have previously invited them to attend games. “We’re really excited to launch our first ever national campaign, The Big Step Out, to celebrate the UK’s unpaid carers and those they care for,” says Sue Mott, CEO of Stepping Out With Carers. Anyone can participate from wherever as long as they send us their stories and step count. Since millions of unpaid carers frequently feel invisible, unheard, and alone, we would want for them to know how much the rest of society values them. Already, we’ve received such an amazing response from athletes, artists, and a wide range of grassroots associations – and canines too! We sincerely hope that there will be a notable increase in the number of unpaid caretakers.
