Wigan Warriors make decision on appeals after copping two bans

Kaide Ellis and Sam Walters will not be playing on Sunday at Salford, as the RFL confirmed to Serious About Rugby League. The cherry-and-whites have chosen not to challenge any of the three decisions made over the weekend.Paul Rowley’s team appears to be getting much-needed support after suffering a crushing 40–12 loss to Leigh Leopards in the most recent Super League round. Salford can upset the elite teams; they’ve already defeated three of the top five teams in the table this year, so Wigan should be concerned about this match as well. The Warriors might feel unfairly treated if they lose.

Naturally, it’s annoying to be the only team eliminated from a round of games, particularly since there was so much going on elsewhere in the games that the RFL brought attention to the amount of occurrences that were not charged. But Liam Byrne’s absence from the second of two games for Grade C Head Contact in a victory over Huddersfield Giants will only make this frustration worse. He received a yellow card, and Tommy Makinson and Liam Horne were both sent off for eventual Grade C events in Castleford Tigers’ match against St Helens.

But both took use of a loophole explained here which allowed them to avoid missing a single first-team match. In other words, he was suspended for two games instead of only one, like two other players.
