Wigan Warriors: Magic Weekend teaser from Peet

Ahead of the 17th Magic Weekend, all the clubs gathered for a media event on Monday afternoon, during which Matt Teet addressed the press at Eland Road.

The Warriors enter the game following a 30-4 defeat at AMT Headingley Stadium last Saturday. Reflecting on the match, the Head Coach expressed his disappointment with the outcome and how the game ended. He noted that fatigue from the past few weeks seemed to catch up with the team, but acknowledged they should have performed better from the start.

“Our effort and intensity were there, but our execution was lacking, and we failed to build any meaningful pressure during that time. Leeds deserved their victory.”

The Warriors now prepare for Round 22, which takes place during the 17th annual Magic Weekend at its sixth venue—this time at Elland Road in Leeds. This event marks a return to Elland Road for the Warriors, who last played there in the Betfred Challenge Cup Semi-Finals against St Helens in 2022.

Discussing the Magic Weekend concept, Matt Peet said, “I’m biased, so I always recall the good Wigan wins. The atmosphere throughout the weekend is electric, and I believe there will be some great moments across all the games. I’m looking forward to it.”

He continued, “Magic Weekend always has the feel of a big game, with a carnival atmosphere. It’s a great opportunity for fans, players, and staff to come together over the weekend.”

Regarding this week’s opponents, Peet added, “The fact that it’s Wigan versus Saints is a fantastic challenge for us. We know what they bring in terms of energy and intensity.

“Even when they’re not winning games, their intensity and commitment to defense are always high, and we expect nothing less this weekend.”
