Why let go? Christian Pulisic surpasses all Chelsea players in scoring.

Chelsea might be reconsidering their choice to offload Christian Pulisic last summer as the American winger thrives at AC Milan. Pulisic’s recent goal in the 3-1 victory against Verona marks his fourth consecutive scoring appearance.

Since his €22 million move from Chelsea to AC Milan last summer, the 25-year-old has enjoyed a prolific debut season, tallying nine Serie A goals, all from open play, and a total of 12 goals across all competitions.

In Serie A, only Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has more open play goals among wide attackers or attacking midfielders. Remarkably, no player at Chelsea has matched Pulisic’s tally of open play goals this season. Despite Chelsea’s disappointing campaign, languishing in 11th place in the Premier League, their struggles upfront underscore the significance of Pulisic’s scoring prowess.

With Chelsea ranking eighth in Premier League scoring, Pulisic’s contributions could have been invaluable. The winger’s journey at Chelsea began in 2019 when he joined from Borussia Dortmund for €64 million.

His initial season at Stamford Bridge yielded 11 goals across all competitions, including a hat-trick against Burnley, setting a record as the youngest Chelsea player to achieve this feat.

However, Pulisic’s form dwindled in his final season at Chelsea, managing just one goal. Last summer, amidst a significant player turnover at Chelsea, Pulisic was among the departures. In hindsight, Chelsea might rue their decision to let go of Pulisic, considering his stellar performances at AC Milan.
