West Brom have initiated contact with a Sheffield Wednesday player whose contract expires this summer. Several Sheffield Wednesday players will see their contracts end in June, with some already securing moves. Cameron Dawson and Reece James have both signed free transfers to Rotherham United. Additionally, Lee Gregory has joined Mansfield Town, while George Byers is in search of a new club.
Di’Shon Bernard, another player out of contract, faces an uncertain summer as he is currently on international duty with Jamaica in the Copa America. Similarly, Josh Windass’s contract is set to expire at the end of June, and reports indicate that the striker is likely to leave. Windass has attracted interest from several Championship clubs, including West Brom, who have reportedly contacted the 30-year-old regarding a summer transfer.
Windass played a crucial role in Sheffield Wednesday’s final three games of the season, scoring in each match and helping the team secure a 20th-place finish in the Championship. Although he was offered a new contract as per the club’s retained list and appeared set to stay, recent reports suggest he is now more likely to depart Hillsborough. Birmingham World reports that West Brom have expressed keen interest and have contacted Windass’s representatives. Additionally, Birmingham City, relegated to League One last season, are also interested in signing Windass this summer.
