Kieran Trippier may depart Newcastle before the transfer window closes because he has committed to sign with Bayern Munich this month.
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany reports that Trippier and Bayern have reached a verbal agreement, and the right-back from Newcastle wants to make the transfer.
Fabrizio Romano has updated the narrative on X as well, lending more credibility to it.
The renowned transfer reporter said that Bayern must now decide whether to pursue Mukiele from PSG or make an effort to acquire Trippier.
Plettenberg took to social media to confirm some of the facts of the relocation, however there are still some obstacles to be resolved.
A serious setback
For Newcastle supporters, this is unexpected, and it hurts that Kieran Trippier left for Bayern at this stage of the campaign.
One of the team’s most seasoned and talented players is the England full-back, therefore the club’s decision to let this happen appears odd.
Of course, more information will come to light, and it’s unclear if there will be a cost. Newcastle would consider selling a 33-year-old as part of a sound long-term plan if the asking price is high.
It will be difficult for Eddie Howe and his injury-plagued team to move on from the loss of their captain and best defender on game day.
Everyone is aware that Newcastle needs a midfield player right now. However, it seems strange that they would lose Trippier in order to acquire that midfield player.
So, supporters of the Magpies will be looking for an explanation soon enough and some guidance as to why they’re letting it happen.
