USC RB Austin Jones meets with the Dolphins

Although De’Von Achane concluded his rookie season averaging over eight yards per carry and Raheem Mostert led the league in rushing touchdowns, Mike McDaniel and the Miami Dolphins could always use more running backs.

Prior to next week’s draft, Miami is one of five teams that will meet with USC tailback Austin Jones, according to Justin Melo of The Draft Network. The teams expressing interest in the redshirt senior include the Denver Broncos and the Las Vegas Raiders.Prior to the 2022 season, Jones transferred from Stanford to USC, where he started his college career. Over the course of his five-year career, he gained 798 yards and a touchdown on 92 receptions in addition to 2,307 yards gained from rushing.

He played in 13 games for the Trojans the previous season, rushing the ball 85 times for 477 yards and seven touchdowns.

On the third draft day, the Dolphins will select five players: No. 158 in the fifth round, two in the sixth round, and No. 241 in the seventh round.

Austin Jones was not chosen in Dane Brugler of The Athletic’s most recent seven-round mock draft. Nevertheless, he possesses the quick burst necessary to succeed in McDaniel’s plan and might be worth a late-round wager.
