The international break is here but Wrexham still have another game on Tuesday night as the EFL Trophy takes centre stage.
Wrexham picked up a big win on Saturday afternoon, beating Northampton Town 4-1 at the STōK Cae Ras.
After one win in four games and some concerning attacking displays, Wrexham hit back in style against the Cobblers.
James McClean’s brace and a stunning Ryan Barnett performance were the highlights of the day for Wrexham as Phil Parkinson got back to winning ways.
The international break is now upon us and next weekend’s game against Lincoln City has been postponed due to call-ups in the Imps squad.
There is some action for Wrexham fans to get stuck into on Tuesday night though as Parkinson prepares his side to take on the Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-21’s in the EFL Trophy.
Ideal chance for Josh Adam to make Wrexham bow
We would expect to see Wrexham make a number of changes for this game.
Parkinson named a much-rotated side for the last EFL Trophy game against Salford City, handing opportunities to fringe players who needed minutes.
The likes of Lewis Brunt, Sebastian Revan, Jacob Mendy and Modou Faal all started as Wrexham claimed a narrow 2-1 win.
The Wolves Under-21’s are next up for Wrexham and this seems to be the ideal chance for Josh Adam to make an appearance.
Former Manchester City midfielder Adam joined up with Wrexham on trial over the summer as he looked for a new club.
We are yet to see Adam in action for Wrexham but Parkinson will be keen to get the 20-year-old up to speed – especially with fellow midfielder George Evans now facing an injury lay-off.
Adam is not part of the Scotland Under-21 squad in this international break and needs minutes in order to really kickstart his season.
A chance to play against Under-21 players for Wrexham may be ideal for Parkinson’s latest signing and whilst a start would be preferable, even an appearance off the bench would be useful.
Wrexham predicted lineup v Wolves Under-21
We would expect Parkinson to ring the changes again, starting with summer signing Callum Burton coming in for Arthur Okonkwo between the sticks.
Dan Scarr started in the last EFL Trophy but has slotted into the first-team starting XI with Max Cleworth out of action.
That means Aaron James may be primed for start in a back three alongside Lewis Brunt and Will Boyle.
Luke Bolton’s recent injury means he may not make this game and if that is the case, Anthony Forde may line up as the right wing back.
Sebastian Revan will surely start on the left side with Jacob Mendy now heading on international duty with The Gambia.
James Jones needs minutes in midfield and the same goes for Ollie Rathbone, who could join Adam in the engine room.
Modou Faal has yet to feature in a league game for Wrexham and certainly needs the action in the EFL Trophy in order to get up to speed.
Paul Mullin is still working his way back to top form and another start tonight could be just what he needs after his pre-season surgery.
Wrexham predicted XI: Burton; Brunt, James, Boyle; Forde, Rathbone, Jones, Adam, Revan; Faal, Mullin.
