Texas must win to survive in the Women’s College World Series against No. 2 Oklahoma.
No. 1 Texas softball and head coach Mike White face a must-win scenario in Game 2 of the Women’s College World Series after an 8-3 loss to the No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners on June 5. A victory in Game 2 would force a decisive Game 3 on June 7.

Texas fell behind early and couldn’t mount a comeback in the opener of the Women’s College World Series final, suffering a five-run defeat to their rivals. Two-time All-American Oklahoma pitcher Kelly Maxwell was dominant, allowing just one run until the bottom of the sixth inning.
Three costly errors by Texas contributed to three Oklahoma runs, sealing the victory for the Sooners in the later innings.
White and the Longhorns now face a daunting challenge: winning two consecutive games against the three-time defending National Champions. However, Texas has proven they can rally against Oklahoma, a feat they achieved during the regular season to clinch the Big 12 regular season title for the first time since 2014.
In the regular season series in Red River, Texas had to win the last two games to defeat Oklahoma in early April. The Longhorns bounced back from a multiple-run loss in the first game to win the next two by one-run margins.
The Longhorns also demonstrated resilience by overcoming adversity in the Austin Super Regional, securing their Women’s College World Series spot with two consecutive one-run victories over No. 16 Texas A&M after losing the opener by a single run.
The first pitch for Game 2 of the Women’s College World Series final between Texas and Oklahoma is set for 7 p.m. CT at OGE Field at Devon Park in Oklahoma City on June 6. The entire WCWS final series is broadcast live on ESPN.
