Tony Dorigo just can’t hold it any longer on what he noticed about Leeds United star Brenden Aaronson ‘off the ball’ in draw against Bristol City

A frustrating afternoon for Leeds United, who will feel Saturday afternoon’s 0-0 draw against Bristol City was two points dropped, rather than one point gained.

There were positives from Saturday’s tie at Ashton Gate. A seventh clean sheet in 12 League games for Illan Meslier, while the result sees Leeds go unbeaten in seven games and remain in third position.

But Leeds did miss chances in the form of Dan James most notably, while a number of other half chances for the Whites went amiss. But it was a solid result even if Leeds did not manage to win all three points.

It was also a fourth game in 10 games for Brenden Aaronson, the USA star enduring a very busy schedule over the last couple of weeks, with the first of those games coming against Mexico last Wednesday.

Tony Dorigo heaps praise on Brenden Aaronson for work rate

What was evident on Saturday was Aaronson’s vigour without possession. Hard-working, the American won the ball back on numerous occasions, and actually, no other player won more duels than Aaronson.

On one of the numerous occasions that Aaronson did win the ball back for Leeds, former Elland Road star Tony Dorigo heaped praise on the attacking ace and described the £25m USA international as “brilliant.”.

“Once again though, Brenden Aaronson. Brilliant play to win the ball back; he’s working really hard off the ball,” Dorigo said during commentary on LUTV, after Aaronson won the ball back in the 42nd minute.

One thing Aaronson must improve, Simon Grayson has noticed

For a player that has played in the Champions League, has many caps for his country, and was bought for a fee of £25m, Aaronson does need to improve in two key areas especially while in the Championship.

Three goals and one assist after 12 Championship games is okay-ish for a no.10. Simon Grayson recently said he still has question marks regarding Aaronson, the former Salzburg and Philadelphia Union player.

If Aaronson can get his name on the score sheet and perhaps more importantly as a no.10, start to lay on some more assists, then the doubts regarding Aaronson will start to fade away in Leeds’ bid to go up.
