News that hometown hero Carlos Alcaraz would be participating in the ATP 500 event this year has given the 2024 Barcelona Open a significant boost.
For the Spaniard, the competition will seem far away. The Australian Open exhibition matches for Alcaraz include a rematch of the 2022 US Open final vs Casper Ruud.
Still, Alcaraz certainly looks forward to the clay-court season each year. It is the ground he was raised on, and it is obvious to all that he feels at ease there.Alcaraz hasn’t yet turned his skill on clay courts into a French Open victory. The majority of tennis players do, however, concur that change is inevitable. Some claim that if cramps hadn’t set in, he would have defeated Novak Djokovic in the semifinal match of last year.
The Barcelona Open is a competition where Alcaraz has been victorious. He has won the last two editions of the event, and the Twitter page of the competition has enthusiastically proclaimed its return of Alcaraz this year.
Alcaraz defeated fellow countryman Pablo Carreno Busta in the 2022 tournament final in a straight-set fashion. However, in other matches, the two-time Grand Slam champion had to battle hard as Alex de Minaur in the semifinal and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals forced him to three sets.
When Alcaraz took home the victory the next year, he was even more dominant. In his wins over Dan Evans, Nuno Borges, Roberto Bautista Agut, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, and Stefanos Tsitsipas, he did not lose a set.
Alcaraz is currently wrapping up his arrangements in order to board his flight to Australia. On whatever surface, it’s exciting to watch him play tennis. We can anticipate him providing tennis fans with at least as much entertainment on after his stint in Melbourne.
