This season, the San Antonio Spurs paid a Grizzlies player $400,000

This past season, Lamar Stevens split his time between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Boston Celtics.

Having shot 45.0% from the field and 30.4% from three-point range in 38 games, the former Penn State standout concluded the season with averages of 7.2 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.

Stevens was traded to the San Antonio Spurs over the offseason (via the Cleveland Cavaliers).

He was, however, waived by the Spurs prior to the season.

The Spurs paid Stevens $400,000 for the 2023–24 NBA season because he still had money left on his contract (h/t Sam Yip of HoopsHype and Spotrac).

As stated on July 17 by Yossi Gozlan of capsheets.com: “Lamar Stevens leaves a $400,000 dead cap hit on the San Antonio Spurs books for this season.”

Stevens spent four NBA seasons as a player for the Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, and Cleveland Cavaliers.

In 203 regular season games, he has averaged 5.7 points and 2.9 rebounds per game while shooting 46.3% from the field and 28.6% from three-point range.

During the 2022–2023 NBA playoffs, he also made two appearances for the Cavaliers.

Stevens will be allowed to join with any team in the league as a free agent this summer.

With a 22-60 record, the Spurs concluded the season as the 14th seed in the Western Conference.

This is their fifth consecutive season of missing the NBA playoffs.

Still, Victor Wembanyama, the franchise’s rising star, is a major draw.
