Things get very embarassing as Watford player issues apology over Leeds United fans claim…

Leeds United fans have earned a mention from Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann, who has apologised to his own supporters.

The Hornets’ club captain made costly errors at Elland Road as Daniel Farke’s side emerged 2-1 winners on Tuesday (22 October) to maintain pressure towards the top of the Championship.

Bachmann said the travelling Watford fans made more noise at times than the Whites supporters who packed into the stadium – an interesting statement, indeed.

Speaking to Watford’s official website [23 October], the stopper said: “I can only apologise. They have travelled a long, long way on a Tuesday night to support us in big numbers.

“At times we heard them more than Leeds, and that says a lot at this stadium.”

Leeds United secure vital win over Watford

Anyone who was inside Elland Road for this midweek contest will rightly feel Bachmann is totally wide of the mark with these comments.

Leeds fans were loud throughout, albeit the usual sting was taken out of the atmosphere due to any sort of jeopardy being taken out of the game thanks to two quickfire goals.

United have managed to keep pace in the Championship after seeing out the win, and after the full programme of midweek games sit third.

Only Burnley – on goal difference – and Sunderland on 25 points perch above Leeds on 22, making for what could shape up to be a huge promotion race further down the line.

It was far from pretty at times against the Hornets, but champions find ways to win and Farke is proud of what his team have achieved, with Bachmann having brazenly come out and made his comments following his costly mistakes.

Next up is Saturday’s trip to Bristol City [26 October], who sit seven points behind the Whites in 10th having not lost since 14 September.

Farke will be boosted by new arrival Josuha Guilavogui, who will compete for a midfield spot and can also slot in a centre-half.
