The 26-year-old was in outstanding form for Unai Emery’s team the previous year, helping the Villans secure a spot in the Champions League for the following year with nine goals and five assists in the Premier League. But now that the Villans and Juventus have reached an agreement on a trade deal that will see £16.9 million go in one direction and Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior go in the other, the Brazilian appears certain to leave Villa Park this summer [Fabrizio Romano, June 11]. Hutton believes that both Juventus players have shown promise while playing in Italy, but he believes that Villa lost a key player for a very cheap sum, thus they really got the raw deal. “Iling-Junior is a good winger, in my opinion,” Hutton told villanews.
I can understand why, though, because he’s a very talented player and clearly very gifted technically. He also enjoys going at people and can create opportunities.I’m not sure about McKennie. Although he has been the subject of much buzz for a number of years—I freely admit that I haven’t kept up with him—he hasn’t particularly stood out, and I believe that Douglas Luiz is one of the key men. He’s a contributing factor to their current situation. It won’t be an issue if Juventus wants to bid more than £50 million for him since the money will be coming into the team, and you can then choose who you want to buy.
It doesn’t add up in my opinion, though, because these are two guys who Juventus doesn’t really want. One of Aston Villa’s top players who will compete in the Champions League the following season is acquired, and Villa receives two players you just wish to get rid of. “For me, it just doesn’t add up.”
