The Texas Longhorns had one of the most productive wide receiver corps in NCAA football this past season. When everything is said and done, the group will have produced three receivers of NFL caliber, two of whom might be selected in the 2019 NFL Draft’s first round.
Not to add, one of the best tight ends in the draft will be selected by the Longhorns. Quinn Ewers, their star quarterback, is back, but the loss of so much quality as wide receiver raised concerns. That is, until Steve Sarkisian signed three of the best passers through the transfer site. among whom is thought to be among college football’s top receivers overall.
The best wide receivers in college football were listed in a recent ESPN article, with Quinn Ewers—the team’s expected new top target—coming in at number ten.
“A former Georgia high school sprint champion in the 100 and 200 meters, Bond has blazing speed and should develop into a reliable deep threat for the Longhorns,” wrote ESPN’s Mark Schlabach.
Joining Bond on the list were notable players such as Colorado’s Travis Hunter, Michigan’s Colston Loveland, and Oregon’s Tez Johnson.
During the previous season, Bond caught 48 passes from Jalen Milroe for 668 yards and four touchdowns. Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell both had at least 55 catches for 800+ yards last season, so Bond should see a huge increase in targets if Ewers continues to progress at the same rate as he did. Bond will also have the opportunity to join one of the most explosive trios in college football history alongside Oregon State transfer Silas Bolden and Houston transfer Matthew Golden.
Bond was rated as the No. 1 receiver and No. 4 player in the portal upon transfer. Now that Ewers is tossing the ball to Bond with more assurance, Bond is being watched closely by nearly every Texas school record in 2024.
