Texas has identified 3 potential transfer targets this week.

Texas is reaching out to late-spring transfer portal targets as the window nears its close in a few days.

As the spring NCAA Transfer Portal window nears its end, Texas football, under the leadership of head coach Steve Sarkisian, has revealed its focus on specific positions. The team is actively seeking to bolster its defensive tackle position to enhance depth in the front seven as they prepare for their debut season in the SEC.

Texas football is identifying late-spring transfer prospects.

The Longhorns are considering the addition of a prominent cornerback transfer to address the depth loss resulting from recent departures via the portal. Over the past week, Texas saw two experienced upperclassmen defensive backs, junior cornerback Terrance Brooks and junior nickel Austin Jordan, exit via the portal.

However, there is also the possibility that the Longhorns will stick with their current group of cornerbacks following spring ball, as Texas coaches have expressed confidence in the personnel within the cornerback room. Here’s an overview of three new transfer targets that the Longhorns have recently evaluated.

Derrick Harmon, DT.

Without a doubt, the primary target among transfer defensive tackles for Texas this spring is Damonic Williams, a former junior defensive lineman from TCU. Williams recently visited Texas for an official visit, which proved successful and met all expectations for the two-time All-Big 12 Honorable Mention player.

Should the Longhorns fail to secure Williams during the spring transfer window, their attention may turn to two former Michigan State Spartans transfer defensive tackles, identified as potential top targets by the defensive staff.

According to a report from Texas Football’s Gerry Hamilton on April 26, the Longhorns have reached out to Derrick Harmon, a former junior transfer defensive tackle from Michigan State. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 330 pounds, Harmon is being closely monitored by Texas, contingent upon Williams’ decision expected in the next few days.

Harmon boasts three seasons of experience at Michigan State and has accumulated over 70 combined tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks, 37 quarterback pressures, two batted balls, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery since 2021. With his size, Harmon could provide valuable reps for the Longhorns in the SEC this upcoming season, addressing a critical need identified by the coaching staff during the spring transfer window.
