Yan Valery, formerly with Southampton, joined Sheffield Wednesday earlier this month, marking a significant move in the club’s summer transfer activities. Among the eight new additions, Valery is particularly familiar to manager Danny Röhl, with whom he previously worked at Southampton. The transfer, completed early in the month, came at a fee of around £400,000, and Valery signed a three-year contract with Sheffield Wednesday, potentially keeping him at the club until he is 29. This move is part of a broader strategy of securing longer-term contracts for players, both young and experienced. Valery has already donned the Owls’ colors, participating in a pre-season match and gearing up for further training camps and friendlies in Germany and Austria later this month.
Valery expressed his enthusiasm about reuniting with Röhl, stating, “As soon as I knew that Danny wanted me, I just wanted to go back with him because I’ve known him as Southampton assistant coach. He’s the one who was really working on the pitch with the players and with me in my first season. He helped me a lot, and I improved so much with him, so I was really happy to hear from him again and to know that now he was the main manager. It was obviously a no-brainer.”
According to Craig Hope of The Mail, Newcastle United is set to appoint former Monaco performance director James Bunce, reuniting him with the club’s new […]

Southampton are reportedly preparing a significant £20 million bid for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley, including potential add-ons that could push the total amount beyond Celtic’s previous record sales of approximately £25 million. Southampton manager Russell Martin, who previously worked with O’Riley at MK Dons, is keen to reunite with the Danish international. Since his move to Celtic, O’Riley has thrived, becoming a key player and significantly contributing to their double-winning campaign last season.
Aware of financial fair play constraints, Southampton is unlikely to meet Celtic’s initial asking price directly. O’Riley’s impressive performances for Celtic have attracted considerable attention, including from Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and several other European clubs, although no formal offers have met Celtic’s valuation yet. Celtic, having secured O’Riley on a new contract in October, are in a strong negotiating position and are unlikely to accept anything less than their valuation. It remains uncertain if Southampton will meet Celtic’s demands, but a bidding war could ensure Celtic secures the best possible deal for their star midfielder.
Southampton and Leicester City have both set their sights on Timi Max Elsnik, the talented Slovenian midfielder currently making waves at Olimpija Ljubljana. At 26, Elsnik’s stellar form has not only secured him a place in Slovenia’s Euro 2024 squad but also garnered attention from top clubs across Europe, including Lazio and Lyon. Despite interest from abroad, the £5.5 million price tag has made Elsnik an enticing prospect for Premier League returnees Leicester City and Southampton, who are eager to strengthen their ranks ahead of the upcoming season.
After securing a swift return to the Premier League, Southampton now face the challenge of building a squad capable of avoiding relegation next season. Saints […]
Sunderland are reportedly demanding between £25 million and £30 million for their attacker, Jack Clarke, amid significant transfer speculation. Clarke has attracted interest from several clubs, including Burnley, Lazio, and Southampton, following an impressive Championship season with 15 goals and four assists. Recently, Premier League clubs Wolves and Crystal Palace have also been linked with a move for Clarke. It appears unlikely that Clarke will renew his contract with Sunderland, which has two years remaining, and Tottenham is set to receive a percentage of any transfer fee.
