Jose Cifuentes’ departure to Aris Thessaloniki could help fund a new signing for Rangers. While initial reports suggested an obligation to buy, it has been clarified that the Greek club has only secured an option to buy after his season-long loan. Former manager Michael Beale had high hopes for Cifuentes, praising his versatility as a midfielder. However, despite his potential, the Ecuadorian struggled to find his footing at Rangers. The hope is that his move to Greece will prove more successful than his previous loan to Brazil.
Sunderland head coach Régis Le Bris discussed the futures of Zak Johnson and Timothee Pembele following the team’s Carabao Cup loss to Preston North End. Le Bris, who started Johnson at right-back after a strong loan spell at Dundalk, acknowledged the player’s desire for regular game time and hinted at the possibility of another loan move, despite expressing a preference to keep him at the club. He also confirmed that Sunderland is considering a loan for Pembele, who was left out of the squad for the Preston match.
Rangers are reportedly eyeing a move for teenage Liverpool midfielder Bobby Clark, who is on the fringes of the Anfield first team. With new manager Arne Slot reviewing the squad, Clark could be among those permitted to go out on loan. The Athletic notes that Championship clubs Leeds United, Sheffield United, Norwich City, and Coventry City are also interested, while RB Salzburg has made a £6 million bid for the 19-year-old.
Being the second-choice goalkeeper for a Championship team is a notable achievement for a young player like Pierce Charles. However, this role won’t provide the experience he needs. At his age and with his potential, Charles would benefit more from being the first-choice goalkeeper at another club, ideally in League One or Two. The possibility of not going out on loan due to Ben Hamer’s injury could be frustrating, and Rohl must carefully consider the situation. Bringing in another goalkeeper on a free transfer to fill the No. 2 spot temporarily might be necessary. Prioritizing the development of young talents is crucial for Sheffield Wednesday, and a successful loan move could help Charles become a more valuable asset for the club in the future.
