Bears’ Coach Eberflus Stands Firm on Controversial Call Before Blocked Field Goal Against Packers
Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberflus stood by his decision to let the clock run down before their final field goal attempt in a heart-wrenching 20-19 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Despite the disappointment of their fourth straight defeat, Eberflus insisted that, given the circumstances, he would make the same choice again. The Bears had a chance to end their losing streak, but the Packers blocked Cairo Santos’ 46-yard field goal attempt as time expired.
Eberflus explained that while he would have preferred a closer kick, the risks of running another play—such as penalties or mistakes—outweighed the potential reward. “You feel good about your decision there,” he said. As the Bears continue to struggle, sitting at the bottom of the NFC North, safety Kevin Byard reminded the team that despite the losses, they must remain united and focused on improving. “We don’t come in this building to lose,” Byard emphasized.
