Every transfer window brings surprises and consequences when certain targets are missed and move elsewhere. This summer, Macaulay Langstaff seems set to join Millwall in the Championship, potentially paving the way for Tom Bradshaw to leave the Den.
Bradshaw, a Welsh international, has garnered interest from Championship clubs, including Swansea City and Cardiff City, both looking to enhance their attacking options this window.
Despite being part of Chris Coleman’s preliminary Euro 2016 squad, Bradshaw had to withdraw due to injury and has only eight Welsh caps. He will turn 32 at the start of the new season, which slightly deviates from Swansea’s typical transfer philosophy. However, his record of 42 league goals in 116 starts for Millwall, and a career average of better than a goal every three games, makes him an attractive prospect.
Bradshaw expressed his desire to end his career at Millwall, telling the South London press, “I’d love to finish off my career here. I don’t know how long my Millwall career will last – I’m here next season and still feeling really good. I’ve made it clear ever since I signed that I love it here. I’ve got a really good connection with the fans and my family are from the area.”
However, with Millwall’s potential signing of Langstaff, Bradshaw’s future at the club is uncertain. First-team opportunities may become limited, prompting a possible departure. Millwall has already received inquiries about Bradshaw, though Swansea has yet to make contact. Still, multiple sources suggest Swansea is closely monitoring the situation, especially with Jerry Yates likely moving to Derby and Jamal Lowe poised to join Sheffield Wednesday.
Bradshaw has one year left on his contract, so any move would require a transfer fee, a consideration for Millwall as they decide whether to sell him or risk losing him for free next summer.
This is a situation to watch, and a move for Bradshaw should not be ruled out at this stage.
