Swans strengthen their coaching staff by adding a former Giant and club legend.

Sydney has named three new coaches for 2025: Collingwood development coach Harmit Singh, former Giants player Adam Kennedy, and club legend Jarrad McVeigh. McVeigh, who has been tasked with leading the VFL team for the past five years as an assistant coach after playing 325 games for the Swans, will take Damian Truslove’s place, who has returned to Victoria for family reasons.

In the coach’s box, the move has created a vacancy next to John Longmire. Kennedy, who just hung up the boots, will fit right in as Sydney’s development coach. Despite playing 153 games over 13 years as an original Giant, the 32-year-old’s career was hampered by recurring ailments in the latter part of it, specifically shoulder reconstructions and ACL tears. Finally, Singh joins the 2024 grand finalists from the Pies, where he served as the Collingwood VFL team’s assistant coach and head of Academies and Peter Daicos Academy.

Essendon was also where Sydney’s new coaching and talent director worked on women’s recruitment and men’s academy development. According to Sydney Swans EGM of Football Leon Cameron, the club will gain a great deal from all three appointments. “Harmit will bring a wealth of academy experience to our program, and having worked in the game for several decades, he’s the perfect fit to head up our QBE Sydney Swans Academy,” said Cameron.

We think this is a great time for Jarrad to take over the VFL club, given he has been working under John Longmire in the AFL program for a number of years. Adam Kennedy is the perfect individual to coach and develop our young talent pool. I had the honor of working with him for many years at the Giants. “I congratulate each of the three on their appointments and hope they will contribute significantly to the club.
