Sunderland’s season finishes with yet another lackluster performance, as Mike Dodds provides a brutally honest verdict.

Mike Dodds has stated that Sunderland will not tolerate another season like this one after they were relegated to 16th place following a 2-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday.

The Black Cats ultimately finished just three points ahead of Wednesday, who appeared destined for relegation under Danny Rohl’s leadership. After Liam Palmer and Josh Windass’s first-half goals proved to be decisive, Dodds criticized his players’ defensive play and claimed that the problems in the opponent box that have plagued them all season had returned.

There will be some significant personal reflections. Considering the game retrospectively, we had more than enough opportunities to alter the score. However, as I just told the players, the two objectives are nearly the same in that they both involve letting players run off shoulders. In that particular section of the field, you also need to keep an eye on your runners and handle the fundamentals of the game. You also have to take your chances with the other box.

In all honesty, I don’t think the table is lying, and I’ve told the folks there that we deserve to be where we are in it. Not just during my term, but over the entire season, we haven’t given the supporters enough to be happy about. We haven’t lost too many games this season, and I feel like we’ve given the opposition the advantage. We have been incredibly snatchy in front of goal and not looked comfortable, which has been a true persistent trend throughout the season, in my opinion, as evidenced by the two goals that we scored today that were so avoidable.

Dodds stated that after a terribly dismal season, everyone at the team, from the players to the boardroom, needed to take stock of what went wrong.

What has happened this season is divided into three segments, according to Dodds.

“I need to reflect because I’ve been leading the team for this time and things haven’t gone as well as I would have liked, and the club needs to reflect on some of the decisions that have been made. Furthermore, I’ve told the players that they need to take stock of their own performances because, to be completely honest, there has been a noticeable difference between some of them this season and last.

I recently spoke to the team there about how we must all accept responsibility; we cannot continue to enjoy the highs of the previous year, receive all the praise, and then begin to point fingers [when something goes wrong]. I just stated that our performance hasn’t been good enough and that we should be where we are at the table. Since the table doesn’t lie, everyone can learn a lot, and I believe the group has come to the realization that some things will need to be discussed and decided upon for the upcoming season. We will not put up with another season like that as players and personnel.”
