Mike Dodds, Sunderland’s acting head coach, talks about the team’s hiring procedure in advance of the summer transfer window.
At Sunderland’s upcoming recruitment meeting, interim head coach Mike Dodds will share his thoughts as the team prepares for the summer transfer window.
After Michael Beale and the Black Cats decided to part ways last month, Dodds will be in charge of the team’s remaining games this season. Like many other clubs, Sunderland has a head coach in charge of team coaching, while other managers handle player signings and transfer negotiations.
Despite having been a part of Sunderland’s first team coaching staff for over two years, Dodds will likely share the same recruiting philosophies as former Sunderland managers Tony Mowbray, Beale, and Alex Neil.
Dodds explained his role to the Echo by saying, “I have been involved in previous meetings.” “How the recruitment meetings operate: We will schedule them all year long. Those meetings are obviously more frequent when the window is open or about to open.
“After considering our suggestions, the club will ultimately decide whether to press the button that indicates whether a player is a yes or no. However, they consistently included them, whether it was Tony, Alex, or Mick. In that conversation, they included the other staff members and me as well.
“I am not sure when the next meeting is, but when we get there, there will be a list of players, and we will talk about those players in detail.”
