Stoke City academy product Emre Tezgel discusses his loan stint at MK Dons ahead of a play-off semi-final clash with Crawley Town.
This time last year, Emre Tezgel was unwinding on holiday, catching the play-offs on TV. Now, on loan from Stoke City to MK Dons, the 18-year-old England youth striker gears up for four pivotal days. It’s his maiden taste of regular senior football after becoming Stoke’s youngest-ever player at 16.
Tezgel’s recent form, with three goals and three assists in five games, has been instrumental in securing fourth place and a play-off spot against Crawley Town. The winner will vie with either Doncaster Rovers or Crewe Alexandra at Wembley for promotion.
“It’s been a good experience,” he shared with StokeonTrentLive. “I’ve been at Stoke my whole life so being away is a taste of something different. The senior football aspect has helped me and I’m enjoying it.”
Tezgel’s versatility has seen him deployed as both a striker and a number 10, presenting diverse challenges and learning opportunities. The physicality and pace of League Two have been a stark contrast to under-21s football, demanding quick decision-making under pressure.
Living away from home and adapting to the dynamics of a new team have been additional learning curves. Despite the challenges, Tezgel feels welcomed and supported by his MK Dons teammates.
Now, as he prepares for the play-offs, Tezgel reflects on a challenging journey marred by injuries but buoyed by resilience. With his focus on the present and optimism for the future, he aims to make the most of his loan spell and showcase his abilities.
The next few days hold immense significance as Tezgel and MK Dons eye a shot at Wembley glory.
