Steve Cooper views Saturday’s clash with Ipswich Town as the perfect chance to correct recent setbacks.
City are heading to Portman Road aiming for their third Premier League win this season—a result that could create valuable separation from the bottom three, where Ipswich Town currently sits.
Ahead of Saturday’s 3pm kickoff, Steve Cooper shared his thoughts with the media at LCFC Training Ground.
‘Show We Can Adapt’
After a midweek Carabao Cup exit to Manchester United, City’s focus shifts back to the Premier League, hoping to bounce back with a win. Cooper stressed that while the quick succession of games leaves little training time, they need to stay on track.
“With such a quick turnaround to Saturday, we’re fully focused on Ipswich,” Cooper said. “The games come fast, but that’s a positive. We knew about the schedule, so we just have to thrive in these situations and adapt.”
He added, “We want our third win, and there’s a strong determination within the squad to achieve it. Our focus is on ourselves, and when we’re at our best, it’s because we’re locked into our own game. That’s the plan for the weekend.”
‘A Ruthless Environment’
Defensive issues have been a concern, with City conceding 10 goals in their last three games. Cooper acknowledged the need for improvement in concentration and accountability.
“I can’t ignore the goals we’ve let in,” Cooper admitted. “Concentration is crucial—being present in every moment. We’re in a ruthless Premier League environment where you get punished for errors, so we need to strike the balance where we score more than we concede.”
He added, “We must take responsibility for our mistakes, be accountable, and always aim to improve. Concentration is key, especially when it’s the little things that make a big difference.”
‘All Significant Games’
Ipswich has shown promise this season, though three losses have recently dampened their momentum. Cooper sees this as another crucial match.
“Ipswich has been on an upward trend with Kieran [McKenna], and both clubs share similarities since last year’s promotions,” Cooper explained. “Every game matters, and we don’t want to give any team an easy result. We’ve learned from the impact that three points can have and remain committed to fighting for every win.”
He concluded, “Every game is significant, and we’re eager to head to Ipswich and give it our all.”
