Saints manager Russell Martin acknowledges the significance of Saturday’s relegation clash at Wolves, emphasizing that “every game is big.” Southampton heads to Molineux after a crucial win over Everton, where Adam Armstrong secured the game’s only goal, lifting the Saints off the bottom of the Premier League standings and just above Wolves, who remain winless after ten matches.
Wolves will view the Saints’ visit as a chance to secure their first league win since April, but Martin remains focused. “Every game is huge,” he said. “We’re fighting to improve our position all season. One win doesn’t mean we’ve cracked it—we need to keep pushing and improving in every area.” Martin praised his players for their resilience in recent games, particularly their performances against Manchester City and Everton, noting that “they’ve drawn a line in the sand” and committed to battling each week.
Martin also expressed gratitude to the fans, saying, “The support has been brilliant, even outside the club.”
Meanwhile, Wolves’ manager Gary O’Neil faces his own challenges. Despite being in the top half for goals scored with 14, Wolves have conceded 27 goals in 10 matches, leaving them with the league’s worst goal difference at -13. Following a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace, where fans voiced frustration over O’Neil’s substitutions, he remains determined.
“We’re ready to fight, whether the stadium is with us or not,” O’Neil commented, adding that he’s focused on preparing for Southampton rather than making excuses.
