A statement has been released by Southampton ahead of their Championship match against Sunderland.
The Black Cats will visit St Mary’s on Saturday for the rematch, and Southampton has announced that the match will proceed following the postponement of Wednesday’s match against Preston due to a significant fire in the adjacent industrial complex. After defeating Birmingham 4-3 the previous weekend, Martin’s team is still in fourth place in the Championship standings, while Sunderland will be looking to snap a five-game losing streak.
In a statement, Southampton said: “We are very excited to have you back at St Mary’s on Saturday for our match against Sunderland. The fire in the surrounding industrial units has caused some minor changes around the stadium, but we have been working really hard with the local authorities and emergency services to make sure the game can go on.
“You are welcome to participate in the fun activities in the Kingsland area, but please note that the Family Zone outside the stadium will be closed due to its close proximity to the fire site.
“The Stadium Store is still open and is currently offering a fantastic 50% off on this season’s uniforms and training wear. However, certain sections of the South Car Park will be closed, so please heed the signage there to ensure your safety and stay away from any affected areas.
Additionally, we have been informed that there will be regular matchday road closures; therefore, please make sure you allow enough time to get to the stadium safely. We are grateful to all of the fans who have shown their support and to everyone who has put in a lot of work to get the stadium ready for tomorrow.
