Southampton might be unable to afford re-signing their former striker.

According to Sky Sports (live transfer blog, 17.43, 11.06.24), Southampton might be priced out of a move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja.

Southampton are in the market for new signings following their promotion to the Premier League. They secured their return to the top flight by defeating Leeds United 1-0 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley, thanks to a goal from Adam Armstrong.

Armando Broja, 22, previously spent a loan spell with Southampton during the 2021/22 season, scoring nine goals in 38 appearances before returning to Chelsea. Last season, he was loaned to Fulham but did not score in his eight appearances for the club.

Sky Sports reports that Russell Martin’s side is interested in bringing Broja back this summer but has cast doubt on their ability to afford him. Other clubs, including Everton and Wolves, are also mentioned as potential suitors.

Southampton should approach their recruitment with patience and avoid rushing into expensive deals. They need players who fit Martin’s style and can compete at the Premier League level. Broja, familiar with the club and proven as a goal scorer, would be a valuable addition.

Currently, Broja’s focus is on Euro 2024 in Germany, where Albania will compete in Group B against Italy, Croatia, and Spain. He has been with Chelsea since 2009, rising through their academy ranks after starting at Tottenham Hotspur.

To date, Broja has made 38 appearances for Chelsea, scoring three goals, and has gained experience through loan spells at Vitesse, Southampton, and Fulham.

Southampton are linked with a move for Broja in the coming months, but his price tag could be an issue. Additionally, Wolves and Everton may compete for his signature. With limited chances of breaking into Chelsea’s starting XI due to their depth, Broja would benefit from joining a team where he can secure regular playing time.
