Southampton in talks with £34m Serie A star alongside other Premier League teams

Southampton are reportedly in discussions with a £38 million-rated Serie A player, along with other Premier League teams.

Southampton appear poised to make significant moves in this summer’s transfer window, which officially commenced last Friday. The Saints have reportedly kicked off their spending spree with a £20 million buy option exercised for Manchester City loanee Taylor Harwood-Bellis following their promotion to the Premier League. Russell Martin’s side is also eyeing a potential permanent deal for loanee Flynn Downes from West Ham, indicating a willingness to invest substantially.

Another target on Southampton’s radar is Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon, valued at up to £15 million. The club’s return to the Premier League has sparked speculation of a major investment, with reports suggesting they could splash around £38 million on a single player.

Recent reports from Italy indicate Southampton is among the clubs in talks with representatives of Juventus forward Matias Soule. The 21-year-old Argentine impressed during his loan spell with Serie A’s Frosinone, tallying 11 goals and three assists in 36 appearances despite the club’s relegation to Serie B. Soule’s representatives are reportedly engaging with several Premier League clubs, including Leicester City and West Ham, as well as Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Southampton’s promotion ensures a financial boost, with expectations of approximately £140 million from broadcasting revenues and other sources. However, with significant sums already earmarked for Harwood-Bellis and potential moves for players like Downes, the club’s budget is already under pressure. Nevertheless, investing in quality signings is crucial for Southampton’s bid to establish themselves in the top flight next season.

Securing Soule would represent a statement signing for Southampton, but competition from clubs like Leverkusen, who offer Champions League football, poses a challenge. Moreover, Juventus’s valuation of €40 million (£33.86 million) indicates the complexity of negotiations for the promising Argentine forward, whose future at the Italian club remains uncertain after his standout season.
