While there’s been a lot of speculation about new arrivals at St Mary’s on deadline day, up to six players could be heading out. Some exits seem expected, while others are more surprising. Here’s a look at who might leave.
Paul Onuachu seems the most likely to depart Southampton. The club has been holding out for a fee above £10 million, but Trabzonspor has been reluctant to go beyond £6 million, resulting in a stalemate. However, both sides could soften their stance. If the Turkish club raises their offer slightly and Southampton secures their rumored targets like Danny Ings and James Ward-Prowse, a compromise could be reached. Southampton might need to not only gain a transfer fee but also cut Onuachu’s wages from the books.
Kamaldeen Sulemana is another player who could be on his way out. With the winger seemingly surplus to requirements, a decent offer could see him leave St. Mary’s.
Ryan Manning is a potential departure that hasn’t been widely discussed. While he showed some promise in the Championship, he hasn’t cemented his place in the squad. With Jack Stephens preferred at left-back in the final games of last season, and Kyle Walker-Peters, Charlie Taylor, and Juan Larios also capable of playing there, Manning seems to have fallen down the pecking order. Saints could look to move Manning on, even if it’s initially just on loan.
There are ongoing rumors about Alex McCarthy’s exit, especially if Aaron Ramsdale’s move to Southampton is confirmed.
Armel Bella-Kotchap could also be on the move. His brief appearance against Cardiff may have been a signal to potential suitors, with a late bid from Germany being a possibility.
If Southampton manages to land James Ward-Prowse, some surprise exits might occur to trim the wage bill. Joe Aribo or Will Smallbone could be sacrificed, or perhaps even both.
