Sicily earns maximum coaches’ votes as Hawks dominate

Hawthorn Captain James Sicily has become the fourth Hawk to receive maximum coaches’ votes in as many weeks, following Will Day (10 votes in Round 13), Dylan Moore (10 votes in Round 12), and James Worpel (10 votes in Round 11).

In the Hawks’ 48-point victory over Richmond at the MCG, Sicily’s stellar performance included 33 disposals (28 of which were kicks), 15 marks, and 10 intercept possessions. The star defender displayed exceptional skill, achieving 81.8% efficiency and accumulating 881 metres gained.

Coaches recognized midfielder Jai Newcombe as the second-best player on the field, awarding him eight votes. Newcombe impressed with a goal, 26 disposals, eight marks, and four clearances, showcasing his midfield prowess.

Rounding out the votes for the Hawks were key forward Mabior Chol and defenders Josh Weddle and Jack Scrimshaw, each earning three votes. Chol played a pivotal role in the victory, kicking a match-high four goals, taking four marks, and applying strong forward pressure. Weddle excelled in defence with 23 touches and seven marks, while Scrimshaw dominated in the air with 10 marks and 16 disposals, including seven intercept possessions.
