Sheffield Wednesday is reportedly “set to sign” Leeds United’s Keenan Carole this summer on a free transfer, according to an emerging story from LeedsLive.

The 19-year-old French winger, who played for the U21s against Ipswich Town last week, was reportedly on trial with the Owls.Carole hasn’t made an appearance for Leeds’ U21 team this year. Sebastian Carole, a former player for Leeds, is his father. Keenan is a winger who can play on either flank.

The anticipated migration of Carole to Hillsborough has not been given a timeframe, but it appears to be a deal that will happen quite some time in the future.

About a month before the 2023–24 season came to a close, Sheffield Wednesday set about getting professional deals and new contracts for many of their younger players. Those included players like Joey Phuthi and Sam Reed, and Carole’s apparent impending arrival shows that Sheffield Wednesday is giving its development team a lot more focus.

Rohl was adamant about it when he first came, and the rise of guys like Bailey Cadamarteri and Pierce Charles in goal indicates that he is willing to take a risk on these younger players.

Although Carole appears to be a fairly inexperienced player, his desire to sign with Sheffield Wednesday before his contract with Leeds expires indicates that he is ready to start and believes the team will be a suitable fit for his growth.

Furthermore, his signing may indicate that Sheffield Wednesday is prioritizing free agents and younger players this summer, which may be advantageous.

Although Sheffield Wednesday still needs to add quality players to the first squad this summer—they can’t rely just on untested talents like Carole—signings like these undoubtedly indicate a change in the club’s outlook.
