Sheffield United and Stoke City are both vying to sign Norwich City defender Sam McCallum, according to Alan Nixon. Sheffield United is preparing for their return to the Championship after finishing at the bottom of the Premier League last season under Chris Wilder. On the other hand, Stoke City had a challenging season, battling relegation and ultimately finishing 17th under Steven Schumacher’s management.
Norwich City, meanwhile, had a strong season, finishing in the top six despite a disappointing play-off performance. This success provides new manager Johannes Hoff Thorup with a solid foundation to build upon.
McCallum, a 23-year-old left-back, featured in 29 Championship games for Norwich last season, scoring once and consistently contributing to the team’s efforts. However, he is set to become a free agent at the end of the month, attracting interest from two Championship clubs.
Both Sheffield United and Stoke City are keen on acquiring McCallum. Due to ongoing takeover discussions, Sheffield United’s spending is currently limited, but Nixon reports that signing a free agent on favorable terms might be feasible for the club’s management.
