Sean Dyche admits Crystal Palace clash is a must-win as pressure mounts on the Everton boss.

Everton sit 19th in the Premier League after a disastrous start to the season under Sean Dyche.

Everton boss Sean Dyche acknowledges that their home match against Crystal Palace is crucial for kick-starting their season. After four straight losses, the team finally earned their first point with a draw against Leicester last weekend. However, it marked the third consecutive Premier League game where they squandered a lead. Their upcoming opponents are also searching for their first win, with only three draws to show for their efforts. Dyche knows that a victory would help relieve some of the mounting pressure.

“The importance of every game is clear, but some are critical for us to win,” he stated. “After a tough start, we need to find any way possible to win, stay calm, and deliver solid performances.” He admitted that the team is still searching for that winning mentality. “We need to regain that killer instinct in both boxes.”

Dyche has faced challenges due to a series of injuries within his squad. However, there’s a silver lining, as first-choice center-back Jarrad Branthwaite may be ready to make his first start of the season following groin surgery. Additionally, Vitalii Mykolenko is back from injury, and Idrissa Gueye has returned from compassionate leave.

Everton’s defensive struggles have been alarming, with 14 goals conceded in the league so far. Dyche commented on the defensive issues, noting that while there have been personnel changes, the overall structure remains largely the same. “Last season, we were strong defensively, and it’s important not to over-change things,” he explained. “Basic principles still apply—when the ball comes into the box, someone needs to clear it.”

He acknowledged that while the attack has improved in recent games, the key is finding balance to tighten up defensively. “Last season, we had 13 clean sheets, and I see better signs now, but we need those signs to translate into wins. Getting that winning edge back is crucial.”
