Newcastle United loaned Ryan Fraser to Southampton, and after a productive season at St Mary’s, the Scot is eager to make the move permanent.
Ryan Fraser is determined to make his loan from Newcastle United to Southampton a permanent move. After playing a crucial role in Southampton’s promotion to the Premier League, Fraser has set his sights on staying with the Saints.
He was a key player in their 1-0 victory against Leeds United in the Championship play-off final, contributing significantly throughout the season with 11 goal involvements in 44 appearances.
Following the triumph, Fraser expressed his hopes on Instagram, writing, “hopefully we can spend next season together making more history.” With just one year remaining on his Newcastle contract, he was optimistic when asked by the Daily Echo about his future at Southampton, laughing and stating, “I’ll try my best.
” Given his strained relationship with Newcastle, it’s likely he has played his last game for the club. Fraser had been relegated to the under-21s by manager Eddie Howe, who wanted to focus on players committed to Newcastle.
Fraser, who has ties to the South Coast from his Bournemouth days, was eager to join Southampton and reconnect with former Scotland teammate Russell Martin. Reflecting on his time under Howe, Fraser admitted it was “a little bit awkward” now, but he harbors no regrets.
“He was unbelievable with me. I did well for him. I learned as a player from him. It’s sad how it ended but, at the same time, it’s ended now and I’ll always cherish the years that we had,” Fraser remarked.
