Ross Wilson’s take on Nottingham Forest’s deadline day pursuit of James Ward-Prowse.

Nottingham Forest’s summer transfer window has officially closed, with some last-minute deals completed at the City Ground.

Nuno Espírito Santo has certainly been well-supported this summer, with Evangelos Marinakis opening the wallet generously. Forest have responded to the owner’s ambition with a solid start to the season, securing four points from their opening two games.

A total of 11 new signings have been made at the City Ground this summer, following a challenging 2023/24 campaign. Two of those signings were finalized on the last day of the transfer window, as Forest capitalized on some late opportunities to complete their busy summer dealings.

One of the standout deals has been particularly well-received within the club, with Ross Wilson expressing his satisfaction late on deadline day.

Ross Wilson Delighted with Forest’s Deadline Day Move

The first of Friday’s arrivals was Brazilian defender Morato, announced by Forest late that night. However, the headline-grabbing move was the loan signing of James Ward-Prowse from West Ham United for the season. It appeared to be an opportunistic move by the Reds, who have now secured an experienced midfielder with a wealth of Premier League experience.

Speaking to the club’s website late on Friday, Chief Football Officer Ross Wilson expressed his delight at securing Ward-Prowse.

“We’re thrilled to welcome James Ward-Prowse to Nottingham Forest this evening. Everyone is familiar with James’ talent in the Premier League, along with his strong leadership and personal qualities. He is someone I’ve known for a long time, and as soon as the opportunity to bring James here arose, Nuno and our ownership moved quickly. We’re confident he’ll make an immediate impact both on and off the pitch, and we look forward to him joining up with the squad.”

Ward-Prowse to Fill Danilo’s Void at Forest

The 2024/25 campaign had a tough start for Forest when Danilo suffered a serious injury. Fortunately, the injury wasn’t as severe as initially feared, requiring only minor surgery. However, it did leave Forest slightly thin in the holding midfield positions just minutes into the new season.

Marinakis and Wilson have acted swiftly in the market to bring in Ward-Prowse, a player who could provide a reliable alternative for Nuno’s starting XI, filling the void left by Danilo’s absence.
