Rookie safety makes play of day in Packers camp practice #12

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Today, it was announced that Packers’ first-round rookie, Jordan Morgan, will be sidelined for about a week due to a shoulder injury he sustained on Tuesday. This injury will prevent Morgan from participating in the preseason opener.

In other injury news, wide receiver Jayden Reed is currently out with a calf injury. During Wednesday’s practice, two additional receivers were injured. Malik Heath went down but was able to return to practice. However, the session ended prematurely when Christian Watson, attempting to catch a contested pass that was intercepted by rookie safety Evan Williams, landed awkwardly. Watson remained on the ground for a few minutes but eventually got up and indicated he should be fine.

Williams, reflecting on his play, expressed his desire to continue making impactful plays. “You just have to make the most of your opportunities, whenever you get them,” Williams said. “It was definitely a step in the right direction. In practice, you like to make those plays, especially against a player of Jordan Love’s caliber. It would definitely mean more if it was in a game. You just have to be ready for the opportunities when they show themselves and make the most of them.”

Fellow safety Xavier McKinney praised Williams’ performance, saying, “I thought it was fantastic. He did a great job of finishing practice the right way. It was a great high point. Obviously, it was a 2-minute situation so we needed that and it won us the game. I thought it was great and I think he’s been doing some great things.”

Additionally, the Packers added a third kicker to their roster today. Australian-born rookie Alex Hale from Oklahoma State, who made 27 of 34 field goal attempts last year, joined the team. Hale impressed in his first Packers practice by making 5 of 6 field goal attempts, intensifying the competition for the single place kicker spot.
