Josh Austerfield has penned a two-year contract with Salford City
Huddersfield Town midfielder Josh Austerfield has joined Salford City for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old departed the Terriers for the League Two outfit over the weekend, with the midfielder penning a two-year deal with the Ammies.
The move ends Austerfield’s 14-year association with Town, who came through the club’s academy to make six first-team appearances for the Terriers, three of which were made in the Championship last term.
Austerfield had six loan spells away from Town during his time at the club, having stints with Brighouse Town, Hyde United, Morecambe and Crewe Alexandra, as well as having two loans at Harrogate Town.

The midfielder spent the second half of last season in League Two with Crewe, where he featured 21 times for the Railwaymen, including in the play-off final at Wembley, where his side suffered a 2-0 defeat to Crawley Town.
The 22-year-old now returns to the fourth tier with Salford, who have registered a draw and a defeat from their two league matches so far this term.
“After Josh was handed his first senior start last season, it has since been difficult to ensure he has a consistent place within the squad,” Town’s sporting director Mark Cartwright told his club’s website.
“This is by no means a question of his dedication to the club, but more an opportunity for him to develop his game in a side that he can progress with.
“It’s important for Josh that he can play as much regular first-team football as possible, which we won’t be able to offer moving forward. Having come through the academy and given 14 years service to the club, I – and everyone else at Town – wish him all the very best for the future.”
