Régis Le Bris makes interesting double transfer admission after Sunderland’s loss to Preston

After Sunderland’s Carabao Cup defeat to Preston North End at Deepdale, head coach Régis Le Bris discussed the futures of two players, Timothee Pembele and Zak Johnson. Le Bris made the decision to start 20-year-old Zak Johnson at right-back, following the defender’s successful loan spell at Dundalk last season.

Johnson has expressed a desire to play as many matches as possible in the upcoming 2024-25 season, hinting that another loan move could be on the horizon. While Le Bris seemed interested in keeping Johnson at Sunderland, he did not rule out the possibility of a loan, acknowledging that the club might consider such an option.

He noted that while Johnson played as a right-back in the Preston match, his best position might be at centre-back. Le Bris praised Johnson’s commitment and eagerness to learn, highlighting his consistent effort and involvement both in games and training.

However, with strong competition in the squad for his preferred position, the coach suggested that a loan might be in the best interest of both the player and the club.

Le Bris also addressed the situation of Timothee Pembele, who was not included in the squad for the Preston match. When asked about Pembele’s future, Le Bris confirmed that the club is exploring the possibility of a loan move for the former PSG player.
