Recently, Sunderland AFC revealed a thorough stadium development plan aimed at enhancing the spectator experience at the Stadium of Light.

This includes replacing the stadium’s current playing surface with a brand-new, cutting-edge pitch before the 2024–2025 season.

We have been informed that there would be disturbance to the ashes of those who were previously buried at the stadium due to the magnitude of the work required.

The ground where the ashes were buried will be moved by the Club to an expanded memorial garden outside the Stadium of Light.

This will serve as a special place of memory for fans of all religions and be open every day of the week, including game days.

On Tuesday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., supporters whose loved one’s ashes have been interred in the stadium are also welcome to visit.

This will guarantee that they can witness a moment of introspection prior to the start of this procedure and enable them to verify the location of their loved ones’ ashes.

The Club keeps records of the areas where ashes have been interred; nevertheless, you are welcome to email confirmation of this information to the aforementioned address.

Sunderland AFC would like to express its gratitude to its supporters for their comprehension about this extremely delicate issue.
