Ralph Hasenhuttl believes that Southampton is “willing” to pay £6 million for a player who is “very special.”

Ralph Hasenhuttl at Southampton was all praise for Perraud.

Many Southampton supporters thought Perraud ought to have remained with the team during the summer, and he was a well-liked figure among them. Instead, Martin approved Perraud’s transfer away and chose to put his faith in Ryan Manning to execute his philosophy at left-back. But Hasenhuttl was the one who signed the French defender, and shortly after clinching Perraud’s contract, the Austrian coach told Hampshire Live, “He [Perraud] has been absolutely fantastic.” He has also demonstrated a few really strong games, but it is not easy. “That problem [having options at full-back] is one of luxury.” I don’t find it problematic; rather, last season’s lack of alternatives at these spots was the issue. However, Romain remains a young talent who will contribute significantly to our games. In the games he has participated in, he has demonstrated that he is an alternative option for the left-footed player on the left side, which opens up other opportunities. I am glad to have him because he has had some excellent games so far. If Hasenhuttl had stayed, perhaps Perraud’s story would have been different, but Southampton will send him to Betis in the hopes that he can establish himself as a regular once more.
