Bertrand Traoré, now representing Villarreal, recently spoke publicly for the first time since departing Aston Villa.
The winger finalized a contract with the Yellow Submarine, valid until the end of the season, with hopes of making a lasting impression to secure a longer-term deal with the La Liga club.
In remarks quoted by AS, Traoré expressed his belief that the transfer presents a significant opportunity for his career and conveyed his enthusiasm to thrive at Villarreal.
“I’m very motivated by this opportunity that I don’t want to let slip away, and I’m ready to help the team when the coach decides, because I’ve just come from playing with my national team,” said Traoré.
“LaLiga is a championship I have always followed. I thought I would never play in Spain. But luckily I have the chance to show who I am here in Spain. I’m very motivated by this opportunity and I don’t want to let it slip away. I’ve even told my friends that I’m going to learn Spanish soon. This football is very competitive and I hope to show my full potential.”
Traoré initially joined Aston Villa in 2020 in a transfer worth €18.4 million from Lyon, accumulating 62 appearances for the Premier League outfit during his tenure
. However, his playing time diminished significantly, prompting a loan move to Turkish side Basaksehir in 2022, where he remained until January 2023.
With limited opportunities at Villa, Traoré struggled to make an impact this season, only featuring for a total of 43 minutes across six appearances.
Consequently, the club was open to his departure before the expiration of his contract, leading to Villarreal securing his signature on a free transfer, ultimately benefiting all parties involved.
