Yunus Akgün has returned to Galatasaray following his loan spell at Leicester City last season.
According to Friday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, Hellas Verona has identified the 24-year-old as a key target to strengthen their squad this summer. The Serie A club is focused on bringing in new attackers, and their list includes Akgün, a former Leicester player, and Boavista’s Róbert Boženík.
Regarding Akgün, it is reported that Hellas Verona is in ongoing discussions, likely with Galatasaray, to secure his services. During his tenure at Leicester, Enzo Maresca utilized Akgün in various roles, including attacking midfielder, winger, and central midfield. The Turkey international recorded two goals and three assists in 29 appearances across all competitions for the Foxes.
As per Galatasaray’s official website, Leicester paid a €500,000 loan fee and had an option to buy him for €9 million, which they did not take up.
The report indicates that Hellas Verona is looking to sign Akgün on a loan deal with a €5 million purchase clause. However, Galatasaray insists that this clause be mandatory, which is currently the main sticking point in negotiations between the two clubs.
Essentially, Akgün is available for a €5 million permanent transfer, with the financial impact of the transfer being postponed for a year.
