Phil Hay says Stuart Dallas has been in talks with Leeds United over his next move after retirement

Phil Hay reports that Stuart Dallas has discussed his future with Leeds United following his retirement announcement due to a persistent knee injury. Dallas, 33, declared his retirement at the end of the season, marking over two years since his last game following a severe knee injury caused by a collision with Jack Grealish. Despite numerous surgeries and relentless rehabilitation efforts, Dallas was unable to make a comeback. A crucial player under Marcelo Bielsa, Dallas was named Player of the Season during Leeds’ first season back in the Premier League.

Dallas concludes a nine-year career at Leeds, with 266 appearances for the club. The club’s retained list confirmed his departure as his contract expired. However, his future with Leeds might not be entirely over. Phil Hay, speaking on The Square Ball, mentioned that Dallas could remain at Elland Road in a new capacity, suggesting that there have been discussions about this possibility.

It remains unclear if Dallas has pursued any coaching qualifications, but it is plausible that he has considered or even started this process while recovering from his injury. Hay expressed interest in Dallas’s next steps, indicating that talks have occurred between the club and the 62-time Northern Ireland international about his future. “Obviously, Dallas has retired. Really interested to see what he does, if he goes into coaching. There was a bit of a conversation with Leeds as to what could be next with him. I expect he takes time to take stock,” Hay said.

Leeds’ coaching setup already includes notable figures, with Aaron Lennon recently seen in a coaching role and Stewart Downing appointed as the assistant manager for the Under-21 side. If Dallas is interested in a coaching role, Leeds would likely accommodate him given his contributions to the club over the years.

With significant changes expected in the playing staff and personnel this summer, maintaining a familiar presence like Dallas at Thorp Arch could be beneficial for the club.
