The Premier League’s interest in signing Joao Palhinha from Fulham has now been confirmed with Arsenal eyeing him. In recent days, a number of sources have reported that Arsenal are interested in Joao Palhinha, including Connor Humm and soccer team Team News and Ticks.
The player is said to be emerging as a potential target for the Gunners in the transfer market, although it is more likely to be settled in the summer than in January.
Palhinha was previously linked with a move to Bayern Munich in the summer and remains a target for the club, but now multiple sources have confirmed there is also Premier League interest in the player.
Sam Dean of The Telegraph writes that Bayern have competition from a number of Premier League clubs, with at least two interested in the midfielder. Latest Arsenal injury updates and news Simon Collings of the Evening Standard confirms that a number of Premier League sides are monitoring the 28-year-old, while Kaya Kaynak writes for Football.
London that a number of clubs in the division are indeed interested. While none of the three moves specifically name Arsenal as interested clubs, the timing of the reports – Arsenal’s interest matching the claims made on social media – cannot be ignored. Arsenal have usually gone for players much younger than 28-year-old Palhinha, so the addition of the Fulham man would be surprising.
But the Portugal international has been outstanding for Fulham, so the Gunners could be willing to overlook his age and relative inexperience at the highest level.
Bayern were prepared to pay around £56m for Palhinha in the summer, although it is unclear whether Fulham will agree to the same amount this time around. Arsenal are likely to need midfield additions in 2024 and Palhinha certainly looks strong. Maybe just not the goal we’d expect.
