Orel Mangala is about to finalise his £25 million transfer from Nottingham Forest to Lyon, Football Insider has been informed by sources. Mangala, 26, played a significant role for Forest in the first half of the previous season, but he first signed a loan-to-buy agreement with the French team during the January transfer window. With the two clubs having already agreed on a deal and payment schedule for the midfield player, the move is now expected to become permanent. In an effort to prevent further expenditure violations, the Nottingham club will list the transaction in its financial year-ending June 30 statements. However, Forest had previously included the transaction in their annual forecasts because it was anticipated that the trade would happen once details were worked out when the Belgium international made the initial loan switch.
Orel Mangala is expected to leave Nottingham Forest once a transaction is finalised. After joining the Forest as a starter in 2022 for £12.7 million from Stuttgart, Mangala was a constant in the starting lineup. Although the midfielder started 21 of his 22 games at the City Ground in the first half of the season, the Premier League team chose to approve a loan move to Lyon in January. In an effort to allay Forest’s concerns about profit and sustainability (PSR), the Ligue 1 team is about to finalise a permanent deal for the Belgian.
Football Insider disclosed last month that in order to avoid receiving yet another point deduction, the Nottingham club will have to sell players before the end of June. It is thought that Forest will potentially violate the financial regulations once more this season, since Nuno Espirito Santo’s team will need to generate approximately £30 million in revenue via player sales in the upcoming weeks.
