Three senior players from Sheffield Wednesday have yet to make a final decision regarding their futures as their current contracts near expiration. Despite this uncertainty, the club has been proactive in the transfer market, acquiring free agents Ben Hamer and Max Lowe, as well as Yan Valery for an undisclosed fee. According to the retained list released on May 17, two players, Will Vaulks and Cameron Dawson, have decided to move on, with Vaulks joining Oxford United and Dawson transferring to Rotherham United.
Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer have recently signed new contracts, but the futures of Josh Windass, Dominic Iorfa, and Di’Shon Bernard remain uncertain. Windass was reportedly close to agreeing on a new deal with Sheffield Wednesday earlier this month, but negotiations have since stalled. Clubs from the Championship are still interested in the 30-year-old, and Birmingham City from League One has also expressed interest. According to The Star, the likelihood of Windass staying at S6 is diminishing. Meanwhile, the situation with Dominic Iorfa is less clear. Although Iorfa has expressed a desire to remain at Hillsborough in a March interview, there has been no recent update on his contract negotiations.
Di’Shon Bernard’s future at Sheffield Wednesday is also undecided. The Star reported earlier this week that no definitive decision has been made regarding his status with the club, and discussions are still ongoing. Bernard is currently participating in the Copa America with the Jamaica national team, making it unlikely that any contract decisions will be finalized during the tournament. The 23-year-old former Manchester United center-half quickly became a fan favorite in his debut season at S6, and manager Danny Röhl is reportedly eager to keep him as a key player in his plans.
