The France Football Federation (FFF) has announced that Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana (23) will not join the France squad for the upcoming international break. Inter Milan’s Benjamin Pavard (28) has been called up as his replacement.
Fofana was originally selected by Didier Deschamps, but Chelsea continues to monitor a knee injury that kept him out all last season. This ongoing injury limits Fofana’s ability to play two games per week. The decision to withdraw him from the squad was made in coordination between Chelsea’s and France’s medical teams.
Deschamps has instead chosen Pavard, who has been a regular call-up since the Euros. Pavard’s last appearance for France was in a pre-Euro 2024 warm-up against Luxembourg in June. France will face Italy and Israel in the UEFA Nations League during the break.
